Henley Royal Regatta: a jacket, a hemline, and a day planned around one narrow bridge

BACK JUNE 2027This year's Regatta is rowed and done. 2027 is 29 June to 4 July; we hold dates from the spring.

The shape of the day

Built around one narrow bridge and a long social afternoon on the bank. Racing runs morning to early evening through the week.

8:00 AMWe collect you in town. Ties and cravats on board, a spare of each. An hour on a clear morning, longer once Henley wakes.
9:15 AMDropped near the enclosure. Over the bridge and along to the Stewards' entrance where we can, or the A4130 set-down, a five minute walk.
9:30 AMRacing from the bank. Head-to-head all morning, two crews at a time down the reach.
1:00 PMLunch, and the long social afternoon. The Stewards' Enclosure is the day; jackets stay on, phones stay in pockets.
5:00 PMThe afternoon finals. The racing sharpens as the week goes on; Sunday finishes with the prizegiving.
7:30 PMHome, around the bridge. We time the run out to miss the worst of the one-way crawl. No car beats the bridge, so we plan for it.
↑ the bridge is the bottleneck. we plan the whole day around one narrow crossing.

How we prepare

WHEN YOU BOOK

We ask your enclosure. The Stewards' Enclosure is members only, with a real dress code: a tie or cravat for men, a hemline below the knee for women, and no jeans anywhere. We carry a spare tie and cravat, because people forget, and the gate does not bend.

THE DAY BEFORE

The car-park label is collected in advance, not on the day; without it there is no access. Route checked around Henley Bridge, the single crossing everything funnels through, and the town's one-way system that goes up for the week.

WHILE YOU ARE THERE

Drop at the Stewards' entrance or the set-down on the A4130, then the car holds at Lion Meadow. We time the run home to miss the worst of the bridge, because nothing you drive can beat it once it backs up.

Honestly, though

No car beats the bridge. Once Henley Bridge backs up, the train from Twyford can be quicker for the last mile. The car is for arriving in formalwear without a change at Twyford, and for the day it saves at both ends.

The Stewards' Enclosure cannot be bought. It is members and their guests only. In the Regatta Enclosure or on the towpath the dress code relaxes, and we will not dress you up for a gate you are not going through.

for regatta week

Tell us the day and your enclosure, and we will plan the run around the bridge, the drop at the entrance and a fixed price, within the hour.
