Royal Ascot: morning dress, the two o'clock Procession, and why we leave before you think we should

BACK JUNE 2027Royal Ascot 2026 is over. Next is 15 to 19 June 2027, Ladies' Day the Thursday; we hold dates from January.

The shape of the day

Built around the two o'clock Royal Procession, which waits for no one. Everything that matters happens before the first race.

11:30 AMWe collect you in town. Morning dress and hats travelling flat in the boot. We aim to be on the M4 before the arrival crush thickens.
12:45 PMDropped for the Enclosure. Royal Enclosure guests set down on the south side by Car Park 1, close to the gate; the pass is already in the windscreen.
1:30 PMLunch and the lawns. Time to be in place well before two. This is the point of leaving early.
2:00 PMThe Royal Procession. The carriages down the straight mile, on the hour, exactly. Miss it and you have missed the day's set piece.
2:30 PMFirst race. Seven on the card through to about ten past six; the Gold Cup runs Thursday, near twenty past four.
6:30 PMLast race, then home. Your driver waited in Car Park 1; we collect from an agreed point, away from the worst of the gate.
↑ be through the gates before the two o'clock Procession. everything hard happens before then.

How we prepare

WHEN YOU BOOK

We ask your enclosure and the car park on your pass, because both decide where we can drop you. Royal Enclosure guests set down near Car Park 1, and that pass has to be booked in advance; there is no buying it at the gate. We talk through the dress code while there is time to fix it.

THE DAY BEFORE

Hat boxes and morning coats sorted so they travel flat. Route checked; the last two miles through Ascot High Street are the slow part, and we aim to be through them before the arrival peak so you are in place for the Procession.

WHILE YOU ARE THERE

Your driver waits in Car Park 1 through the afternoon. We agree a pickup point away from the gate before you go in, so the walk out after the last race is short and the car is already there.

Honestly, though

The train often wins on time. A direct train from Waterloo drops you a short walk from the course, away from the A332 crawl. The car is for the formalwear, the group and the door-to-door, not for beating the railway.

Fascinators will not pass the Royal Enclosure. The rule is a hat, or a headpiece on a base at least four inches across, with the hemline at or below the knee and straps an inch wide. Stewards check. Better to hear it from us than at the gate.

for the royal meeting

Tell us the day, your enclosure and the car park on your pass, and we will plan the arrival around the two o'clock Procession and send a fixed price back.
